Theatre Fosters Self Expression

Schools everywhere have theatre class. Theatre makes people feel more at home. Anyone can be whoever they want in theatre.

“One of the reasons I love theatre so much is because of how equal everyone is. It makes me feel more at home,” said Tommy Pham, freshman.

During the year, GHS has about five plays including the one musical. This year, the first play is going to be about pirates. The play is called “Treasure Island.” The play was based on the book called “Treasure Island” by Robert Louis Stevenson.

“I am really excited about the play, and I thought the book was really good,” said Kayleigh Gibson, sophomore.

Mrs. Jamie Oettle is the director of all the plays. She is also the teacher of dance and theatre class. Mrs. Oettle has been a teacher for 16 years.

There are lots of jobs to do in theatre. Anyone could be in lights, hair, makeup, costumes. Lots of people do not like talking in front of people. That is okay because the are non-speaking parts.

Theatre has been around for over 2500 years. It has been around that long because it's a way to be oneself.

“Theatre is a way to express yourself, not as yourself.” said Ethyn Falk, junior.
